Karl Ruby - Director
BAcc, ASA, CFE, Dip NZ Police
Karl was born and raised in Upper Hutt. He joined the Royal New Zealand Army in 1989 and trained as a chef. In 1996 he left the army to take up a career in the New Zealand Police. Karl served as a General Duties constable and worked his way up to a Detective working on Homicides, kidnappings and all other serious offending.
Karl left the Police in 2005 and worked as a private investigator for 18 months working on ACC & immigration fraud, commercial investigations and insurance work.
Karl began working for the Inland Revenue Department in 2006 and quickly worked his way up to a Specialist Investigator specialising in Fraud and Evasion work. He has an excellent knowledge of the tax legislation and was considered an expert in his field. He was involved in developing policies and practice frameworks for IRD operations nationwide.
Whilst working for IRD, Karl also completed his Bachelor of Accounting through Massey University.
Karl likes to spend time with his family and also spends time in his roles as the treasurer and part of the incident management team with Tauranga Land Search and Rescue Group Tauranga Land Search And Rescue (taurangalandsar.org.nz)
Megan Ruby - Director
BBS(Acc), ASA
Megan grew up in Rotorua and after finishing High School she studied and qualified as a Legal Executive through the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic whilst also working in the hospitality and tourism industry.
In 2006, Megan started work with Inland Revenue and worked there for a period of 10 years, first in Rotorua and then in Tauranga. Nine of these years were as an investigator and Megan’s passion was for fraud and evasion investigations as well as the prosecutions relating to such cases. She also completed a number of technical audits and GST refund checks. Megan enjoyed the varied workload and gained an advanced knowledge in all areas of tax as a result. Whilst working for Inland Revenue Megan completed a Bachelor of Business Studies with a major in Accounting through Massey University.
After leaving Inland Revenue, Megan gained invaluable experience working as the management accountant for a local building firm and some smaller companies in the engineering and construction industry.
Megan lives in the Lakes with her husband Karl and their children as well as their two dogs Wolf and Madde. Megan is a perfectionist by nature and works hard to achieve great results. She loves working and keeping busy but also likes to relax with a good glass of wine and a movie or TV series.
Megan is also a member of the NZ Qualified Bookkeepers Association.
