Karl Ruby - Director
BAcc, ASA, CFE, Dip NZ Police
Karl was born and raised in Upper Hutt. He joined the Royal New Zealand Army in 1989 and trained as a chef. In 1996 he left the army to take up a career in the New Zealand Police. Karl served as a General Duties constable and worked his way up to a Detective working on Homicides, kidnappings and all other serious offending.
Karl left the Police in 2005 and worked as a private investigator for 18 months working on ACC & immigration fraud, commercial investigations and insurance work.
Karl began working for the Inland Revenue Department in 2006 and quickly worked his way up to a Specialist Investigator specialising in Fraud and Evasion work. He has an excellent knowledge of the tax legislation and was considered an expert in his field. He was involved in developing policies and practice frameworks for IRD operations nationwide.
Whilst working for IRD, Karl also completed his Bachelor of Accounting through Massey University. He is currently studying towards his CPA (Certified Practicing Accountant) qualification.
Karl likes to spend time with his partner Megan and daughter Ella. He is also a field team member and treasurer of the Tauranga Land Search and Rescue Group who assist the New Zealand Police on urban and wilderness searches for lost persons.
Megan Sycamore - Director
Megan grew up in Rotorua and after finishing High School she studied and qualified as a Legal Executive through the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic whilst also working in the hospitality and tourism industry.
In 2006, Megan started work with Inland Revenue and worked there for a period of 10 years, first in Rotorua and then in Tauranga. Nine of these years were as an investigator and Megan’s passion was for fraud and evasion investigations as well as the prosecutions relating to such cases. She also completed a number of technical audits and GST refund checks. Megan enjoyed the varied workload and gained an advanced knowledge in all areas of tax as a result. Whilst working for Inland Revenue Megan completed a Bachelor of Business Studies with a major in Accounting through Massey University.
After leaving Inland Revenue, Megan gained invaluable experience working as the management accountant for a local building firm and some smaller companies in the engineering and construction industry.
Megan lives in the Lakes with her partner Karl and his teenage daughter Ella as well as their two dogs Wolf and Madde. Megan is a perfectionist by nature and works hard to achieve great results. She loves working and keeping busy but also likes to relax with a good glass of wine and a movie or TV series.
Megan is also a member of the NZ Bookkeepers Association.
Georja was born and raised in Tauranga and attended Tauranga Girls College. After finishing year 13 in 2012, she began studying towards a bachelor in Primary School teaching while working part time in hospitality. She completed two years of her degree but realised that teaching wasn’t something she wanted to pursue.
Georja was working in hospitality and received a promotion to a management role so she took this up and began working full time. At the same time, she completed a Certificate in Business Administration and Technology at The Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
After completing her business studies, Georja gained valuable experience as an accounts administrator working for a local Management company where her role involved accounts payable and receivable as well as general administration for a construction company, electrical company and an engineering company.
Georja loves the outdoors and experiencing new adventures New Zealand has to offer, she also likes cooking and winding down with a good movie or book.
Georja is currently studying accounting at Massey University and is a member of the NZ Bookkeepers Association.
Toni was born and raised in Auckland and completed secondary school in 2016. She moved to Tauranga in 2017 and completed the New Zealand Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology) qualification at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.
After finishing her qualification Toni decided to continue studying and gained a New Zealand Diploma in Business with a strand in accounting. While completing this qualification Toni began working at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology as a Tutorial Assistant for the New Zealand Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology) qualification.
Toni is currently studying towards her Bachelor of Applied Management majoring in Accounting at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.
Toni enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and watching any new films that are on at the cinema. She is also an avid baker and loves browsing local op shops to find a good bargain.
